When you are traveling in Sri Lanka, there are some facts to keep in your mind. This cultured country has a lot of rituals to follow. Let's have a quick look on these facts. 

  • Public transport won't be on time.
This would happen generally. In this country punctuation has a less attraction. Specially train will be late often. Not only trains, but also busses. Due to the high traffic, the public transport will not be on time. 

  • Be careful on your dress code
There are two reasons for this. First one is when you are visiting a religious shrine, you have to wear an attire which covers your body completely. It does not mean a burka, a proper dress code which expose too much will be enough. (But in northern part, girls may have to wear a saree and boys may have wear a lungi to visit some kovils, not everyone)

The second reason is due to a tropical country, the country has a quiet population of mosquitoes. Hence you have to cover your body parts when you are traveling through a jungle.

  • Be careful during late night travels
People love to late night travels. It gives another level of freedom. But keep in your mind this country has variety kind of snakes, which also used to late night travels. So, beware of snakes during late night travels.  

  • Keep your passports and important document every time.
This is a common thing. In case of emergency, you have your important documents with you. Keep it safe with you not in the traveling bags. Because if someone steal your things, having your documents with you be a relief. 

  • Smoking in public places is prohibited. 
This is a rule in Sri Lanka. You cannot smoke everywhere. If you feel to smoke, you have to use your vehicle (Not bikes) or you may ask a hotel. Most of the hotels in Sri Lanka have a smoking area. And when you are entering into a shrine, don't keep your cigarettes with you.
