Pukka is a kind of traditional food among Hindus. They consider pukka as a sacred food too. Mostly it is prepared in some special religious purposes. It is a kind of sweet rice. There is a festival based on this festival called ‘Thai Pongal’. We can discuss about the festival later. In this article I am going to express you how sweet the food is as well as the way to prepare this sweet food. Some people make pukka and devote it to show their gratitude towards Gods. Let’s make your kitchen with the pleasant scent of Tamil culture.

Ingredients
Pongal alias Pukka

  • ·        1 cup of Rice.
  • ·        ¼ cup of roasted peanut.
  • ·        1 cup of Jaggery
  • ·        Few cardamom
  • ·        ½ Coconut
  • ·        ¼ cup of roasted Cashew Nuts
  • ·        ¼ cup of Raisins
  • ·        1 tablespoon of Ghee

How To Make

First of all, wash the rice nicely and put them in a pot. Add some 2 ½ cup of water and cook the rice around 15 to 20 minutes. Grind the coconut to extract the milk from it. You can use coconut milk directly if it is possible or cow milk will also another healthy option. Grind the jaggery and mix it with the coconut milk properly. Add the cashew, peanuts, cardamom and raisins to the mixture. Make sure to crush the cardamom nicely. When the water of the rice pot dries up, pour the coconut milk mixture into the pot and mis it well. Bring to a boil at a high heat point and keep a few minutes and then reduce the heat to a low point. When the Pongal mixture becomes to thicken, remove the pot from the heat. Finally pour the ghee on the Pongal to make a good smell and uprise the taste. Here is our delicious Pongal (Pukka) is ready and my recommendation is ‘please have some bananas too with this sweet rice.’
