Sri Lanka one of favourite tourist destination in Asia. The island nation has a pleasant climate throughout the year. The country is really a jumble of different cultures, ethics, environment and etc. You can enter to the country through Katunayake Bandaranayake International Airport easily. There are some too much of rules and regulations to follow. The Buddhist country has a kind of narrow typical religious mind set, therefor you have to be very careful about their rituals. Anyhow let's get started. Here is the blog describing and sharing my experiences in this little island nation. I am planning to go deep with the natives and discover their culture. So, it is time to say "Ayubowan Sri Lanka".
It is easy to cover this little country from north to south. So, first of all I should reach the upper part of the country. It is easy to take a train journey to reach Jaffna. It is the more enjoyable and comfort way of travelling. The public transport service is really bearable. The north part of the country is known as North province. It has 5 districts. Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mulathiv, Mannar and Vavuniya. The major district is Jaffna. This part of the country has got the largest number of Tamil population comparing the other parts. Therefore, the region has got very different and unique cultural background than the other part. It really feels like a different country. Let's began the journey. "Vanakkam Jaffna"
JAFFNA FORT
The second largest fort that built during the period of European rule over three centuries. The fort is located on the south coast of the Jaffna town facing the sea (type of lagoon). Though Popular as the Dutch this fort is genuinely built by the Portuguese who was the first Western nation who established their rule in the part of the island. Earlier the fort was rectangular in shape, but it was Dutch who completely changed the fort into a pentagonal shape. That is why the fort is called as Dutch fort. In the British period, they also made some changes to the fort, but the main structure of the fort belongs to Dutch. This is the only pentagonal shaped fort that remains till date.
Rounded by a deep moat, the fort would be well secured and safe. The walls are very thick and strong. Bastions, watch towers, gun-points and about 200 hundreds well-armed soldiers, all above facts says how hard it would be breaking into the fort. Strong enough to fight and survive. In about 34 acres there were administrative centers, military barracks, a Protestant church, Prison complex, Governor's Bungalow and other relevant buildings.
During the civil war of 30 years, this fascinating
fort suffered a lot. At that time, it was hard to pay attention to the historic
value of this place. Today, we can clearly see the fort has been ruined inside
and few more broken things display the past. But still the fort has a really
good looking by its appearance from outside.
it costs few bucks to visit the place, but the money we pay is totally worthy. The place is full of architecture excellence and fascinating sceneries to which you can take as a nice background to a selfie. It is time to influence the insta mates.........
