Vada

If you ever have been Jaffna, you would definitely have the most popular snack in Jaffna. It is simply known as ‘Vada’. Basically, there are two types of vada. Dhal vada and urad dhal vada. And this article is all about Dhal vada.

Dhal vada is a very popular snack of Tamil culture. Both south Indians and Sri Lankans enjoy the fantastic taste of the snack even once a week. It is really cheap than Urad vada and has two variety of levels of tastes. If you are having a street food walk in Sri Lanka, this snack will be almost everywhere. People eat this food in their teatime as a snack and have it with rice or pittu too. It contains a fantastic well-balanced mixture of crispy, salty, spicy as well as the sweet. Most importantly, this meal is 100% recommended for vegans. Here is the recipe of that mouth-watering snack.

Dhal Vadai
Ingredients

1 cup of dal

2 onions

1 inch ginger

2 green chilies

1/2 tsp red chili powder

5-6 curry leaves

3 tbsp coriander leaves

pinch of salt

Frying oil

 

How To Make

First wash the dhal nicely and soak it for nearly 2 hours. After that drained the water and grind the dhal firmly. Should not be grinded too much. Then chopped onion, ginger, green chili, coriander leaves and curry leaves nicely. Then put all those things together and mix it well. Make small balls from the mixture dividing same quantity. Deep fry the balls till it goes brown and place it on a tray and the crispy snack is ready to serve.
