Another fascinating and most visited destination in Sri Lanka. Keerimalai is located in in northern part of Jaffna. There are about 20km from the town, but this destination definitely should be in your travel diary. Keerimalai is regarded as a sacred water spring. The place is built as a kind of large pond, and the bathing place for men and women has been separated. There is a kovil near here called ‘Keerimalai Naguleshwaram Kovil’ which is dedicated for Lord Shiva.

People believe that this water of spring has a kind of healing power. The sea is beside to the Keerimalai pond. There is a short story about this place. Once upon a time a sage was cursed with a face likened to a mongoose. Then he was looking for a cure and asked help from Lord Shiva. After hearing his prayers, Lord shiva showed this spring and later the sage was cured after having a bath. That is the story behind the pond.

Anyhow most interesting thing is you can have a visit three destinations in one trip. The keerimalai beach is beside the pond, and the Naguleshwaram Kovil is also there to visit. First have a bath in the sea then you can have some fabulous time in the pond. In the end it is time to worship the temple. Lord Shiva will heal you.
